Our Playroom...

We are lucky to have 2 bonus rooms in our house. The upstairs bonus room is our workout room - which is soooo nice with little kiddos, not having to go to get in the car and head to the gym! and downstairs is the kids playroom. It is right off the kitchen and the kids spend a lot of time in there, as do I! So it has come together quite nicely except for one problem wall...take a look (and I think my setting are off on my camera, these photos look horrible...sorry).

And here it is....the problem wall! I previously had artwork hanging on the wall, but it was just too small. This wall is huge...and the ceilings are super high. Any ideas???I linked this post to Decorating Dilemmas Party over at Serenity Now.

Oh my, I just love your room! Those chairs just look like they're calling your name to sit down and relax for a while :) Sorry I don't have any advice for the huge walls/high ceilings...got the same problem!

Have a wonderful day!

Hi there, I found your blog via Today's Creative blog (I think :-) ). Love your playroom, so jealous that you have 2 bonus rooms--awesome! A couple of things came to mind for suggestions for your wall. First, maybe an alphabet assemblage of sorts. I just saw one on another blog today (lizeaton.typepad.com). Or, maybe a grouping of flashcards (I love the Melissa Sweet illustrated ones from eeBoo) hung in Dollar Store frames spray painted to your color(s) of choice. Good luck, I'm sure you'll come up with something great! Jen

How about doing a family photo wall? You can use more of the same large black frames that are on the opposite wall and stagger them on the staircase wall. You could also add some the same letters and spell out FAMILY on the wall.

I am an administrator for a Get this Look for Less segment on a design web site and my plan for next months feature includes a large wall behind a couch. The designer filled the space with framed antique prints of birds. Although you may not want to use antique prints of birds in your room (which, by the way, is lovely!) the design layout may work for you. Visit my blog and click on the link for Design Style Guide. The feature with this look should be up sometime in the next few weeks.

You could do BIG caricatures of your kids on that wall...especially since it's their playroom.

Hi there! Thanks for joining the party. :) Please be sure to add a link back to the party so I can keep your post up. Thanks! :)

The cute cute hot air balloons reminded me of travel, which made me wonder if you could frame or have a mural painted of a United States map??

I also LOVE the idea that someone else had of doing something with the alphabet. That would be fun and educational, and something you could easily change out as the children grow.

Beautiful room! :)

I too love the alphabet idea. Here is another, I did a huge bulliten board using an old goodwill frame http://chickiemommacrafts.blogspot.com/search/label/painting%20crafting
Also maybe large silhouttes of your kids?
The room is fantastic!!

Wow...your room is fabulous!

Maybe you could do a grouping of 3 tall pictures? What about Silhoettes of your kids standing in funny poses!?

Lucky lady to have such a sweet bonus room!
Maybe you could do some kind of chair rail type border in the middle, but instead of trim you could use a thick foot of chalkboard paint, or some comic book pages as the border. Good luck!!!

Hi! I'm stopping over from the decorating dilemmas party. First off, I love this room. What a cool creative space! Love the fun red letters and the hot air balloons. A friend of mine recently did her little boys nursery in a subtle "around the world in 80 days" theme with maps and vintage-looking hot air balloons it looks great. I like the map suggestion someone else gave, but I think it would look cool to cut up a huge map in and hang it in a diagonal series mirroring the shape of the staircase. Sorta like this:

Your frames would have to be much larger to be in the same scale or they'll look like they're just floating around up there. Actually, maybe just several large maps instead of cutting one up?
Anyway, hope this helps!

Are your kids old enough that they are doing art? You could do a rotating gallery of their creations...either with floating frames or black frames that you switch out over several weeks? Love the room and what you've done so far. It's hard to know what to do with such a big wall! I have that problem, too!

Your playroom is incredible! I love how you used the giant posters to take up space on those big walls.

I like the room (and your kitchen set is fantastic!) :)

I'd get a few really big artists canvases the next time Hobby Lobby has them on sale. Paint them to match and then decoupage a blown up family picture on each one. Then hang them up the stairs.

I'd love to see you do here.

What about a giant (or giant grouping) bulletin board(s)? You could paint it a bright white then add kid art gallery style.

I think the alphabet idea would be cute! Or how about one of those vinyl graphics?

Thank you for ALL of the fabulous ideas. I really like the idea of continuing letters/words onto this wall. Maybe decals...I also have a huge roll of canvas - hum...maybe a little painting coming on!

Thanks again!
