Crowned Heirloom White ~

I picked this crown up at TJ Maxx for $5.50 last week.

Now normally I turn for my can of black spray paint, but I decided to try something a little different. So I pulled out a can of Heirloom White that I used in my daughter's room...

I sanded down the edges and turned to a little Ralph Lauren Glaze (thanks to the ladies over at Shanty 2 Chic).

I wanted to add a little detail to the bottom, so I tried this first...

But then switched the paper out to this for a bit more contrast.

I made a little tag and added a few jewels.

And here she is...

But she was still missing something. I picked these up at a thrift shop yesterday for $1.99 each.

So I painted one Heirloom White and

added a little glaze.

I put the two together and ta da -

This! I really love the finished product - although I keep thinking, "what would it look like in black?"

Jar Candle Holder Re-function ~

I purchased these at Michaels recently -

oh, how I was drawn in by those lovely fleur-de-lis...

They are jar candle holders for $5.99 each (I used a 40% coupon for one - so they were about $10 bucks for a set).
And I got thinking, what else could you use these for? I don't have a lot of the jar candles, but cylindrical shaped items I do...

How about to hold your glass water bottles on your Thanksgiving table?
Or a candle holder that just needs a little character?
Or those kinda boring terracotta vases sitting on your counter top?
Ah ha, yes! Now I was in desperate need to change the color from terracotta to gold to match my new bases. So I pulled out my metallic paint and ta-da...
So just remember, next time you swoon over something (just because it has fleur-de-lis on it!) - maybe there is another function that will suit you, and your home, better.

100th Post and a Giveaway ~

Today is my 100th post! It is amazing how time flies and how much fun I have had with this blog. It has truly been one of the most gratifying things I have done for myself in a long time. To thank all of you for your support, encouraging comments and for making this so enjoyable - I am having my first giveaway!

In September, I featured one of my favorite local shops - Heartland Interiors (they just started a blog for their store, go check them out). They have a beautiful store with an amazing design center. You can check out this post to see some of their gorgeous displays. They have been gracious enough to supply me with a few amazing items for my giveaway.

And for the goodies: A Bougainvillea candle in the Holiday scent - it smells fabulous! These candles are hand poured with essential oils in the U.S. by a non-profit organization. There is an adorable crown with rhinestones candle topper that is sold separately and can be used over and over again on different candles. And a super cute gold crown (are you seeing a theme here?). This would be great as an ornament or even just a little decorative accent - you could even add a few jewels to it to "bling" it up a bit. I have also included a pack of my greeting cards. These will be available on Etsy this week. There are 12 cards with envelopes (6 lion door knockers and 6 fleur-de-lis door knockers). All cards are blank inside for you own special message.
