Unfinished Box to Harlequin Beauty ~

Kathy over at Creative Home Expressions showed this lovely box from the blog of Norma Lee Good earlier this week and that harlequin box instantly screamed my name. So...

I had this unfinished box that I painted black and gold a few years ago. And it has literally just sat in the closet waiting for me to finish my original project.

So with that beautiful box in mind, I drew a harlequin pattern on the box in pencil and painted in the pattern with white acrylic paint.

I then brought out my go to Miniwax Gel Stain and gave the box a little character.

I took one of the recycled key holes that I purchased at Re Store a few months back - and I painted it black , sanded the edges and stained it as well.

I love the finished project and want to thank Norma Lee for the inspiration!

Another Thrift Find Turn Pedestal ~

Okay, so I am on a roll. Here is another Goodwill find next to a $1 frame from Michaels.

Here they are with a fresh coat of black spray paint.
I created a tag with the letter "P" and used a little jute to attach to my new pedestal.

I really love how the frame fit perfectly around the square top.

And here it is in its new color and new function! And for a grand tally of $2 - oh how I love the Goodwill.

Thrift Finds to New Pedestal ~

So do you remember these guys I picked up at Goodwill last week? Each item was .99 cents.

I spray painted them black and headed for my tube of liquid nails.

I received this floor vase from my Mother-in-law years ago. And the other day noticed the shape of the vase....hum

I thought - what if I added a knob to the top?
(This knob came from Home Depot for about $6 bucks)

So put it altogether and here is my new cloche with pedestal base! And the final tally: base $2, glass dome was the cost of knob $6, the tassel (I think I picked it up at Tuesday Morning for $2) - so the grand total = $10ish! I am loving my new glass cloche with pedestal base.

Growth Chart Complete ~

So I completed our family's new Growth Chart last night and here is the finished project ~

I simply laid a tape measure out to my desired length - mine was 6'8" (I am six foot and wanted to make sure my kiddos didn't out grow the chart). Then I simply marked each foot and painted the corresponding number.

I then went back and marked off every 3, 6 and 9 inches.

After everything was painted, I took my handy hand sander and gave the edges a little character - which also created a "boarder" for the chart.

And here it was a few months ago, just sitting there ready to be transformed.

So in the end I think my inspired Pottery Barn Kids Growth Chart turned out great and really for a fraction of the price! Chris over at Just a Girl featured my blog today - I am thrilled! Be sure to head over to her blog if you haven't already - it is one you will want to follow.

Maison Inc. Portland, Oregon ~

So I was thumbing through Luxe. magazine and this photo jumped out at me. I love the colors, the lines of the room.

The company is Maison Inc. and they are Portland, Oregon. They have a store filled with gorgeous furniture and offer interior design services. Here are a few photos that I just love -

Goodwill Hunting ~

So my Mom, the kids and I went to a different Goodwill yesterday. It was in downtown Seattle and it was the largest and most organized Goodwill we had ever seen. And due to the shear size, we were able to find a few more items than normal. Okay, feast your eyes on these -I definitely feel some projects coming on.

How Does it Measure Up?

So this is what I was working on last night - A growth chart for my kiddos.

I just need to add a few more hash marks to designate the inches and give this baby a quick sand - just to give it a little character.

So here is my "inspiration"Now I just might have bought this very cool ruler from Pottery Barn Kids, except it has a fairly large price tag at $99.00 and it only measures up to 6 feet (I wanted one that was at least 6'5"). So I thought "self, you can make this much cheaper". And by golly, I think I am on my way. Stay tuned ~
