During my thrift shopping this week, I came across this vase for .99 cents. I instantly turned it upside down and could see the beautiful cloche it was meant to be.
So I picked up this knob at Target for $4.99. Seems like I should be able to find one cheaper, but the cheaper ones always seem to be cheap plastic - imagine that.
And grabbed my liquid nails.
As the knob was drying, I searched for my base. I had purchased this at Michaels way back. I believe it was .99 cents.
I turned to my black spray paint and began hunting for the next part of the base. This candlestick I picked up a month or so ago at the gigantic Goodwill in Seattle for - you guessed it - .99 (I am on a roll here).
And yes, painted it black as well.
And I put them all together -
I liked it, but I wasn't LOVIN' it. So remember these candlesticks I picked up this week? I used one on my crown project here. I grabbed the other one, ran out to my very cold garage and painted it black - spray paint takes a LONG time to dry when it is 4o degrees...
Ah, much better -
Then I made a tag.
Why the 4? Well there are currently 4 of us in our family - but I amholding my breath secretly hoping for more!
And here is the cloche that little vase was meant to be...and for the grand total of about $9 bucks (and the pesky knob was $5 of it). Now I just need to find some Fall items to replace the playful chess pieces...
I linked this up to Frugalicious Friday over at Finding Fabulous!
And Miss Mustard Seed is hosting Furniture Feature Friday. She also has a giveaway for those who link up!
I added this to Transformation Thursday over at The Shabby Chic Cottage. Be sure to head on over, there are always a ton of great ideas!

Chelsea, that is just gorgeous! You have definitely inspired me!!!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
Tammy
I don't know why I am always amazed at what you come up with, Chelsea! You are so creative! This worked out so good and while I liked the first candlestick, the second is a bit more substantial. I even like the chess pieces in this.
ReplyDeleteLove it! That turned into something very beautiful for sure. I found a really similar vase/cloche but couldn't figure out how to make a knob stick. I see now ~~ Liquid Nails! :) Oh, I could also use a tutorial on the tag! Hope your dream comes true, by the way! ;)

I have some glass ones just like yours and I definitely have to do this! Love it!! They look better than the expensive ones I see in so many catalogs! I to love the idea of using those little craft plaque things like you did, I always see them and wonder what I could do with them and now I know!! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome...thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteVery creative. I just love your goodwill finds. My small little goodwill store doesn't hold a candle to what you find. Love it and hope if you're wishing for a 3rd, it comes true!

This looks so great! Nice job Chelsea! I'll be looking for these "parts" around town and hope I can give this one a try myself. Thanks for the how-to!
ReplyDeleteLove it!!!
ReplyDeleteCan you please come to my house & help?? :-) This is beautiful too! Of course, I love black.
ReplyDeleteNo way! You are one fabulous girl! I love it...the tag just makes it that much better!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great piece! Fantastic job on that one, and all the little creative touches are wonderful! Jackie
ReplyDeleteI love it ! I don't have one of those yet.....
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I love it and can't wait to try it! Love that you used a vase...and a candlestick. I have lots of those running around! Thanks for your inspiration and sharing your amazing talents!
ReplyDeleteThis looks great! I just saw this same project somewhere else and knew I had to do it! I have been looking for a vase like that at the goodwill and haven't found one yet though. You rock for showing us that it's OK if you don't like what turns out the first time to show it and to redo it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a WONDERFUL idea! I'm practically jumping out of my seat! I've been dying to have a cloche collection, but I don't want to spend a fortune! GOing to copy this asap. (you will be credited once the post is up)Thanks so much!
ReplyDeletegenius!
ReplyDeleteWhy can't I have that kind of creativity? Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI can not believe the cute things you think of! I wish my mind worked that well in the craft area! Love it! Add a touch of red to it and it can be Twilight inspired...just in time for the New Moon release! YAY!!!
ReplyDeleteCHelsea, that is amazing that you could take those things and turn them into something so pretty! Awesome job!
ReplyDeleteThis is just wonderful! It looks like whoever made that vase meant it to be a cloche and just messed up or something. And all of the components look perfect togther. I agree that the candle stick is much better & more substancial. What I love most about this is it does not look like a "craft project." It looks like it was made that way, not a bunch of pieces glued together. Well done!
ReplyDeleteShut Up!!! I LOVE this!! LOVE the tag!!
ReplyDeleteSooooooooo cute!!!!
You are awesome!
Lou Cinda :)
LOVE IT!!! That is one of the cleverist projects I have seen, and I am SO going to make my own!!! Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Chelsea!
ReplyDeleteThat just couldn't be cuter. I LOVE it....I've made cloches out of those glass candle holders too....but they're sure getting hard to find!
LOVE the Goodwill in Seattle. Whew...that'll take 'ya a day, won't it? I posted quite awhile ago about an adorable little oak desk my daugher got there for a song.....If I remember right, it was about 30 dollars....should have been much, much more. :-) Oh how we love a bargain.
Warm blessings,
Spencer
