I recently added some thermal curtains to our family room. They actually seem to make a difference by dropping the temperature on really hot days. I found them at Tuesday Morning, 2 108" panels for $59.99 (so I also bought a pair of 84" for our master bedroom).

Not only do they help keep the room cooler when closed, they make the room seem cozier and it has a more "finished" look. In the process of searching for the curtain rod, I found some really amazing window hardware from Horchow. They are simply stunning, I love the holdbacks:
