After the sale this past week, my "craft room" was a disaster a little messy. So I decided it was time to really organize my new space. Now I am sure you are all like me and have a ton of little things that need to find homes - so I decided to bring down a dresser that has been shoved in a closet upstairs. Here is the before:
It is a super sturdy piece - I believe it is teak...
I gathered my supplies
and I began to sand with this bad boy - oh, yes I am in love with my Skil Octo Sander!
I then painted the dresser black
Once everything was dry, I sanded the edges and brought him inside to his new location.
Now he looks good, but he needed a little character. So I stenciled on a number for each drawer - inspired by Miss Mustard Seed and Funky Junk Interiors.
The numbers were a bit bright, so I added a little stain to them and ta-da!
I love my new dresser (aka craft room organizer).

ReplyDeleteWow, I had no idea teak could look that good! I love it!
ReplyDeleteYour dresser had good lines, but your finish & numbers made it modern & it looks great now!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving it! The numbers really add to it! Great job!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Chelsea! I also like your accessories on top and the bulletin/memo board above. Great wall color, too.
ReplyDeleteIt looks totally different. You did an excellent job, and what a great way to hide your supplies!

ReplyDeleteOK first, I need (read=want) one of those hand sanders. And second, I need to add numbers to the red dresser I bought off Craigslist. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI just bought a teak headboard for my guest room and am now looking for a bureau...as i was reading your post I was screaming NO DON'T PAINT IT...but it really came out great anyway!! Well done.
ReplyDeleteWhat a transformation. I love it! I painted my twin's chest in a black and then antiqued the edge. Love it!

ReplyDeleteOOO-AAA, I love it and what a great spot for such a great piece. Thanks for linking up!
ReplyDeleteThis turned out great and I love the little vignette on it too. I just linked up a similar (kinda) project to Miss Mustard Seeds party. Would love your thoughts if you've got time.

I love what you did with that dresser. I always have a tough time with those mid-century pieces that have such straight lines. I always go for the curvy, feminine pieces and shy away from dressers like yours. The distressed black paint and numbers really make this piece special. I love it and will have to look twice at pieces like that.
ReplyDeletebrilliant redo!!
ReplyDeleteThe dresses looks so updated now. I see that you use floetrol. I have wondered if it makes a big difference when painting? I'll have to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteawesome! just found you over at mustard seed and love what you did with it...! the numbers are striking!
ReplyDeletenew follower alert! :)
