Ballard Designs Inspired Ornaments ~

So as I was flipping through my recent Ballard Designs catalog, I landed on these (6 for $19.99) and instantly thought "I can make these". And yesterday I did...

I started with a Goldfish box - any cardboard or even heavy card stock would work great - but this I had on hand.

I then sketched out the bird, cut it out and traced it onto the cardboard.

I grabbed my exacto knife and waala - we have a bird.

I then traced the cutout bird onto my sheet music -I am lovin' my Goodwill find!

I turned to the one and only Mod Podge and glued the sheet music to the cardboard cut out.

Ta-da...

I just couldn't stop and made this one as well...
I linked this project up to Transformation Thursday over at The Shabby Chic Cottage.

I also linked these to Miss Mustard Seeds Furniture Feature Friday - I know, these aren't furniture, but holiday decor indeed. Be sure to check out the party, there is also a giveaway!

Just added this project to Saturday Nite Special over at Funky Junk Interiors. I always love scrolling through all of the great ideas that join this party.

Centsational Girl is hosting a DIY Ornament Party and I added this ornament. I am off to check out all of the great ideas.

Love the birds, but I think I like the fleur de lis even more!

"Just sketched it out"? : ) I wish I could do that! They turned out great and I think that Goodwill sheet music is your score for the year! Of course, it goes without saying that I love the fleur {but, I love the fleur!}.

Beautiful--this is something even I can do! (except I'll have to trace the bird!)

I love those....I saw those and thought of making them too...I've been working on making burlap birds like Ballard's..... I LOVE the ones you did. They look amazing!

Wow! I love them! No one would guess that you used trash (empty box) to make them!

First, I want to thank you for your sweet comments on my project!
Second- I want to congratulate you on a beautiful project!! That takes talent and patience! I would have chucked that knife across the room! Nothing is more frustrating to me than cutting cardboard~ wierd, but it drives me nuts!!
These are great... Good job!

Chelsea-I love how you see something and you just do it...
I love the Ballard catalog too and I've been eyeing that simple simple paper chain out of craft paper (or brown paper bag, here). HHHmmmm.....maybe I should stop reading and start doing!
Thanks for always inspiring.

I’m a HUGE Ballard fan or should I say admire (their stuff is sooo pricy). I’ve had my eye on their super cute red and green polkadot stockings for a few years now but I just can’t do it. Anyhoo back on track….I’m loving the ornaments and what a GREAT idea to look for sheet music at GW. I’ll need to keep my eyes open for some.

I loved seeing your Ballard birds!

I made these as soon as I saw them too, but used a different method. I scanned the page into my computer, cropped the picture, printed in 8x10, and cut the bird out. Next I downloaded some christmas sheet music, did a sepia wash on it and printed the sheet music onto cardstock. Finally I used my cut out bird to trace an image on the sheet music and cut out my finished project.

Those of us with less artistic talent must rely on computer printing;-)
