Apple Oven Cake ~

My daughter and I made this yummy "dessert" last night.

I say "dessert" because it really was more of a pancake than a cake, but the kiddos loved it!

I think I might be including it in our Christmas morning.

Ingredients

3 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
1 sweet apple such as Fuji, peeled and sliced
3 large eggs
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon powdered sugar

Preparation

1. Preheat oven to 425°. Melt butter in a 12-in. ovenproof frying pan over high heat. Add brown sugar and cinnamon, swirling to combine. Add apple and cook until just starting to soften, about 3 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, in a blender, whirl together eggs, salt, flour, and milk. Pour egg mixture into pan and bake until puffed and brown, about 15 minutes. Sprinkle with lemon juice and powdered sugar.

I know I have posted this recipe in the past, but I just made it again, and it was just as yummy as it was the last time.

So...I had to share again.

It is from The Pioneer Woman...of course it is good! I really think the secret here is the bundt pan, the crispy outside is divine.

And in case you are wondering, I got my lovely bundt pan from Williams-Sonoma . So don't throw away those squishy bananas!

Wow, it is amazing how much work and energy goes into a show!

It is official, one can finally walk through my craft room again...

DIY Pumpkins ~

Vampire Tools and Materials

Thumbtack or pin
Small white pumpkin (For a big bite, choose a

small pumpkin so the plastic vampire teeth seem huge)
Miniature saw
Plastic vampire teeth
Small red map tacks
Mouth template

Vampire Pumpkin How-To

Print mouth template.
Lay template on pumpkin, and poke thumbtack through,
all along outline, to transfer design. Cut out with saw; remove excess flesh.
Wedge teeth into hole.
For eyes, pin map tacks onto pumpkin.
Fangs, partycity.com. Map pins, 1/8 inch,
in Red; latitudesmapstore.net.

Bat Tools and Materials

Black construction paper
Small white pumpkin
Hot-glue gun
Wing template

Bat How-To

Print wing template.
Trace onto construction paper and cut out.
Fold down flat ends of wings 1/4 inch,
and attach folded edge to pumpkin with hot glue.

I was super excited when I got the chance to review Salvage-Style Projects!

The author, Amy R. Hughes is an editor at The Old House and a fellow DIYer.

This book is full of great project ideas and tons of inspiration.

As you guys know, I love crusin' around the salvage shops here in Seattle, and typically come house with a few great finds. But sometimes those great finds have simply moved from store to my garage...can you relate? This book is a great inspiration for turning those great salvage pieces into functional pieces.

I was also super excited to interview Amy to better understand her salvage-style.

I understand your love of re-purposing salvage supplies came from your parents. What part of the process initially inspired you?

The mystery of old things. My mom, a serial house-hunter, used take me to these incredible wrecks that she wanted to buy and restore. One of them was an enormous Tudor that had been damaged by fire, but there was one room that seemed untouched. Its door was locked, and we didn’t have a key. I still wonder what treasure lay behind that door.

I see that you are a self-proclaimed "junker", are you always on the hunt for another great find?

I'm always looking. It drives my husband bananas. He thinks I cook up reasons to visit these quaint little towns just to hit the antiques and junk shops. Things like 'oh, there's a great farmer's market' or 'I think there might be a micro-brewery.' I hate to admit it, but he's right.

Before you set out for a shopping trip, do you have a specific project in mind or do the pieces spark your creativity?

It's a bit of both, but more often I look for things that fill a need. For instance, I recently searched Craigslist for a wood, wall-hung medicine chest to turn into a message center and mail holder for my front entry. I rolled a couple coats of blackboard paint on the door’s front and fitted the inside with cup hooks for keys. It's a real clutter-buster, because it keeps us from tossing stuff on the counter when we come home.

Are there certain salvage supplies you find yourself buying over and over again?

Barn boards, crown molding, baseboards, flooring, door and window casing; I integrate this old wood into so many reuse projects.

In the book you talk about how to spot a fake, do you ever purchase pieces and end up having to donate them back?

I’m pretty good at telling the difference between an original and a reproduction, so I have yet to return anything. But that’s not to say I haven’t knowingly bought a repro. Some architectural antiques are so expensive that you’d have to be a Robber Baron to buy them. Garden ornaments are like that. I actually bought a used, but not super old, cast iron urn to turn into a fountain. The genuine article would have cost $700 or $800, compared with the $150 I spent.

What is your favorite reclaimed project to date?

It would have to be the headboard I made out of a paneled wood door. I avoided this project for so long because I thought it had been done to death. But it turned out to be the piece I am most proud of. I tried to make it a little different than what I had seen before, adding sconce lights to the ends and topping it with solid crown molding that closely matched the door’s aged white oak. I’m no finish carpenter, but I kind of felt like one the day I finished that piece.

Do you have a dream project? Is there a "Holy Grail" piece you continue to hunt for?

I've been hunting for a 1930 or 40s American Standard Ming Green farmhouse kitchen sink with double drain boards. It's exceptional—the kind of thing you build a room around. We featured one in a story I produced for This Old House magazine. Truth is, I found one. But I won’t reveal my source because I still have to pick it up.

Which one of your 22 great projects featured in your book, would you recommend for someone who is a bit timid about taking on a salvage project?

That message center is really handsome and easy to make. If you’re comfortable with a paint roller and screwdriver, you can do it. Even better, let me help. The step-by-step is in my book.

DIY Halloween Bucket #2 ~

So I decided to make one more Halloween bucket using a peat pot.

So, we start with our fabulously ordinary peat pot.

And just get crazy with it -

yes, this feels crazy for me these days.

For the embellishment, I used a coffee filter for the back and made a quick image in Photoshop using a simple bat image from the fabulous Graphics Fairy.

Dollar Drink Bucket Organization ~

So I am sure you have seen these delightful drink buckets at Target.

Delightful at $1 each.

I am sure there are a 1,001 ways to use these bad boys, but here is how I put them to work.

It all starts with a Brother P-touch label maker - this takes a close second to my iphone!

I know he is old and there are better, shinier ones I could buy - but he works just great.

Here our "Dad Bars" (aka. icky ones), "Mom Bars"(aka Larabars) and "Kids School Snacks" (aka non-refrigerated items that fit nicely in a snack container).

Every bucket is easy for putting things away, and hey quickly finding things in the morning. Plus it keeps the hubby out of my bars and the kiddos snacks!

And since these delightful buckets come in a range of colors - depending on the season - here are a few more for the kiddos snacks at home.

So next time you stroll by these lovely $1 buckets, pick a few up.

And I bet you $$$ you can find all sorts of things to organize!

How to Organize for School ~

Prosciutto and Tomato Crostini ~

I think this looks, well...yummy.

It looks perfect for late summer al fresco dining.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, it seems our summer has finally started.

Just in time to end...boo.

Prosciutto and Tomato Crostini

1 baguette
2-3 tablespoons olive oil

8 thin slices prosciutto
½ cup chopped red cherry tomatoes
½ cup chopped yellow cherry tomatoes
¼ cup minced onion
2 tablespoons basil
salt and pepper to taste
3 tablespoons chopped parsley
Slice baguette into 3/8" pieces, drizzle with olive oil and bake in 350° oven for 4 minutes. Turn, then bake another 4 minutes. Bake prosciutto in 300° oven until crisp (about 10 minutes), let cool and crumble. Mix tomatoes, onion, basil, salt and pepper. Top crostini with 1 tablespoon tomato mixture, then sprinkle crumbled prosciutto and garnish with parsley.

Power of Paint ~

I have been wanting to paint our bar stools for some time, but kept thinking to do it right I should strip and sand and paint and blah and blah...but I got the itch to spray paint them after this post from Beth at Home Stories A2Z. Yes, she did sand them first...and yes that is probably the proper way to do it...but I, well, didn't.

I did however prime them first with Zinsser primer (oh, I love you) and then sprayed them with Rustoleum Black in Semi-gloss.

They are SOOOO much better. And the fabric (newly reupholstered) looks like different fabric. And when I say "different" I mean "better".

We had the problem of our floors, cabinets and bar stools all matched making our kitchen a see of orange - lovely.

Now there is a spot for your eyes to take a mini break.

Oh, and I did a little sanding/staining to distress them a bit. One it looks good and two it will help mask the distressing that will happen from my darling kiddos.

So if you are thinking of painting something or yours...just go do it!

Anyone know what this is?

My Mom and I picked this up at Goodwill awhile back, and I have no idea what it is? I have done a million Google searches, but haven't found anything remotely similar.

So I come to you, my fabulous readers to find out what it is!

It is 12"x12" and fairly heavy.

Here are a few shots of the numbers. They are increments of 6, but I am unsure what the measurements are - they are not inches or millimeters. The entire length of the "ruler" is 7.5".

Any ideas??? I would love to hear them!

Thank you, my wonderful readers, for the great responses! I would have never guessed it was a pill tile - never in a million years! So a $5 buy from Goodwill, not bad.

Easy Squeezy Book Aging ~

As my darling hubby was not jumping up and down for my latest "door art", I decided to reshuffle a few things on the bookcase. First things first, I grabbed all of my vintage books...love them! But realized I need a few more.

So I grabbed a few "new" books (the one on the right already had a little elbow grease into it).

Grabbed my sand paper, and sanded, sanded and...yes, sanded some more.

Don't they look great?

I will fair warn you, this is messy. Like super messy, especially with the black binding. I would have showed you a shot "during" but my hands were covered. You could even go a step further and add a little Distress Ink to the edges.

I think they look great mixed right in with the vintage ones. And you can pick them up at Goodwill for super cheap!

Salvage Door ~

So after my post about architectural details, I got thinking about a door that has been sitting in our garage for-eva.

We recently purchased a new sectional - more on that later - so there has been a bit of shuffling going on. And I am on a "less is more" kick...yes, clean and decluttered. My hubby had to remind me yesterday, that we still want to look like we actually "live" in our home still! I am rambling...

So here is the bookcase in our family room: Before.

In the perfect world, it would be white with lovely molding from head to toe.

Right now, it is this lovely (gag) wood.

Bring out the mentioned door.

Yes, those are hints of pink! This is why is has still been in the garage.

And let the layering begin.

First up, broken clock face.

Next, small working clock.

A little iron scroll detail. And some fabulous door hardware.

And then with a little less scroll.

And then I played around with some books. Hum...

Lovin' the books.

I must say, I had fun playing around, but the hubby was not "into" the new/old door look.

So onto something else.

Strawberry Galette ~

I decided to re-post this after I made it this weekend for friends, and it was just as yummy as I had remembered it. This time, we simply served it with vanilla ice cream...simple, easy and delicious!

I recently made this yummy Summer dessert for the first time - it was one of those recipes I kept meaning to make but never did. It is from Martha Stewart Living May 2008 (I know, it took over 2 years to make it!)

Here are the ingredients (Martha's recipe requires making the crust, I went the loser way out and used a refrigerated pie crust):

FOR THE BASIL CREAM (This was not a huge hit)
3/4 cup heavy cream
1/3 cup loosely packed fresh basil, chopped
2 tablespoons sugar
3/4 cup mascarpone cheese

FOR THE DOUGH
I used a ready to go pie crust

FOR THE GALETTE 1 pound strawberries, hulled
1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 large egg yolk
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Make the basil cream: Combine cream, basil, and sugar in a heatproof bowl. Set bowl over a small saucepan of simmering water, and stir until sugar dissolves, about 4 minutes. Cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or up to 2 hours for a more pronounced basil flavor). Strain through a fine sieve into a bowl. Add mascarpone, and whisk until medium peaks form. Cover, and refrigerate until ready to serve, up to 2 hours.

I simply unrolled my pie crust onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Then I cut the strawberries lengthwise into slices.

Then toss slices with 1/4 cup sugar and the cornstarch, and immediately arrange them in concentric circles on dough. Start 1 inch from edge, overlapping slices slightly (as you can see, I started the outside edge into a circle and then just piled the rest in the center - I know loser way).

Fold edge of dough over berries. Refrigerate for 15 minutes.

Whisk together yolk and water. Brush dough with the egg wash, and sprinkle with remaining 1 tablespoon sugar. Dot berries with butter. Bake until crust is golden brown, 40 to 45 minutes.

We served it room temperature and it was great. It pretty much tasted like strawberry jam in a pie crust - I mean how could you really go wrong with strawberries, sugar and crust! The basil infused cream was not a huge hit, next time I will simply combine the cream, sugar and mascarpone.

My Mom and I were out with my kiddos yesterday and we popped into Restoration Hardware. You truly can get lost in that space, all of the subtle grays and creams bring you to such a relaxed and soothing state...ah, if only I could re-do my entire home, well and buy a new one with 50 foot ceilings to really bring in the calm!

Oui, Croque Madames ~

My son and I were flipping through recipes on my Everyday Food App for dinner ideas, and he instantly decided on Croque Madames (but he called it a grilled cheese with an egg on top)!

It was a bit rainy yesterday, and I must say, this totally fit the bill.

Ingredients

1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature (I cut this back, and used just enough for a super thin spread of butter)
16 slices thin white sandwich bread
1/4 pound Gruyere cheese, thinly sliced
1/2 pound thinly sliced deli ham
Coarse salt and ground pepper
8 large eggs

Directions

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Spread 1/2 teaspoon butter on each bread slice and place 8 slices, butter side down, on a rimmed baking sheet. Divide cheese and ham evenly among slices, season with salt and pepper, and top with remaining bread slices, butter side up. Bake until bread is golden brown and cheese is melted, about 10 minutes (I had to take mine out a few minutes early before they burned), flipping halfway through.
Meanwhile, in a large nonstick skillet, melt 2 teaspoons butter over medium. Cook 4 eggs until whites are set and yolks are still runny, about 4 minutes; transfer to a plate and keep warm. Repeat with remaining butter and eggs. Top each sandwich with 1 egg. Season with salt and pepper and serve immediately.

I created this cork board for my recent sale, but decided to keep it for myself. The instant love connection was just too tight to let go!

Here was my inspiration photo:

I can't seem to locate the before photo of the frame - but think dirty and gold, yes, very dirty and very gold. After I spray painted it white, I gathered some cork board and foam core I had on hand.

I simply cut the cork and foam core to size and glued them together.

I then wrapped it in burlap and fell in love!

For the thumbtacks I glued these magnets ($2 each from Michaels) onto thumbtacks...fun and super easy!

Yep, I am lovin' it and so glad it kept it for myself!

I thought I would re-post this super easy DIY idea for the upcoming 4th. Last year these were a hit - they are definitely a crowd pleaser - gotta love those Red Vines!

I thought it would be fun to have something for kids (and adults) to pick up and enjoy while watching the fireworks this Sunday. I recently picked up some patriotic scrapbook paper at JoAnn's -

I simply cut the paper into strips, each a few inches wide -

And began wrapping the paper around these yummy guys - and sealed the wrap with a little double stick tape.

Super easy, inexpensive and fun for all ages...I mean, who doesn't like Red Vines?

I recently had the chance to take advantage of a buy-one-get-one-free photobook from Mixbook. The timing was perfect as I just got all of our Disneyland photos downloaded...and with having twins, two books is great, they each can have one!

I recently picked up these bad boys.

Yep, that is wax melted all over that shiney wood- awesome!

I took them apart and diligently picked and sanded my way to the original wood. Luckily they came apart super easily.

I then took them to my spray paint room (aka the side yard) and doused them with a little Rustoleum Heirloom White. My Mom then graciously sanded away until these lovelies appeared.

Last Minute Teacher Gifts ~

I am usually much better at time and preparation - but clearly not this time! So today is my kiddos last day of school which meant yesterday I was off to find teacher gifts...last minute teacher gifts.

I am all for gifts that they can use or truly enjoy - and who doesn't love flowers? Right?

I picked up these lovely orchids (the kiddos helped pick them out) at my local grocery store (QFC) and was lucky enough to have the fabulous florist supply tissue paper, boxes and card sticks.

I simply printed out a personal tag, double stick taped it to a little hot pink paper, added a ribbon and bang - personalized last minute teacher gifts!

I got the idea for the cute sayings from Delightful Order. My kiddos have four teachers so it was perfect: Grow, Blossom, Flourish and Thrive. And yes, they definitely all played a part!

A simple thank you to show our immense appreciation to our teachers.

In case you are in disbelief that the end of the school year is here and you too are going to be last minute, this would also be great with any potted plant or flower bouquet.

Thank you teachers for all that you do throughout the year!

Amazon Fresh - I Love You ~

You all must know at this point how much I LOVE Amazon (yes Amazon, you are my favorite), well today I finally got my first Amazon Fresh delivery!

I know, I know - I should have done this months ago, but last night I was able to sit and virtually shop.

And this morning, bright eyed (stumbling for coffee) as we walked downstairs, guess what was sitting on my porch smiling back at me? Yep, my happy blue and green Amazon Fresh containers filled with goodies...well groceries.

And to top off my fabulous experience, I received these lovely flowers to make my morning extra special.

Flowers from my hubby, a secret admirer or my Amazon Fresh delivery person - hey, in the morning it is all the same, I got flowers and I was happy!

I want you to know I was not contacted my Amazon Fresh, nor did I receive any compensation for this post - I just wanted to share my lovely experience with you.

It was easy, everything looks fresh and I think my kiddos thought we had won the lottery! And the best part, my grocery shopping is done, and we haven't even left the house - that my friend is priceless.

Color Me Happy ~

I recently purchased a new set of Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils.

This set runs around $180, but I got mine for $90 from Ebay - thank you Ebay!! I decided they needed to be out of their box and easily accessible.

So I grabbed whatever glassware I had handy. And let the color coordinating begin - the kiddos enjoyed helping me "sort" all of the colors.

I have got to say, colored pencils (really any art supply for that matter) really makes me smile.

I love all of the colors...just waiting to create.

I realize that the computer is now one of the most popular "mediums", but I still love the old fashion pen to paper.

So we are officially back from vacation and adjusted back to our normal day-to-day activities...do you ever feel like you need an mini vacation after returning from vacation? That whole unpacking and readjusting phase...ah, time for a glass of vino!

While on our fabulous vacation, I sneaked into Anthropologie and spotted these fabulous Homegrown Monogram Mugs - $8 each.

I instantly feel in love with the fun whimsical patterns. And upon picking them up, they are an ideal weight and they feel perfect in my hands. I had to hold myself back from buying them right on the spot.

So my darling hubby and I decided to surprise the kiddos with a 10 day vacation in Palm Springs! Of course, we have booked this bad boy weeks ago, it was exciting for all of us to hop on the plane - especially since the kids thought we were off to run errands. The look on this kiddos faces were priceless! And tomorrow we are surprising them with 2 days at Disneyland...I can't wait to hear the screams of joy (at 6am)!

I am off to play in the pool with the kiddos, get engrossed in a fabulous book and completly live in the moment...in 100 degree weather!

Dressing Up a Glass Candle ~

This is a re-post, but I was thinking about teacher gifts and I thought something like this would be fun. I am all about the gift that can be used. And this would be a fun, inexpensive gift they could enjoy - and hey, the kiddos could help too (okay, probably not the hot glue part)!

I picked up this candle for $4.00 on sale the other day - I liked the fragrance, but the candle itself...blah.

So I decided to glam it up a bit. I peeled off the sticker - some might find this tedious, but for some reason I find it a tad bit therapeutic.

Here is it all ready to be dressed up.

I grabbed a bit of burlap and this crown that was once a napkin ring (thanks Mom).

I saw these at the store, and instantly had to have them. Yes, I do enjoy radishes, but the bright colors made me feel Spring! I think this would be so great in big bunches down the center of the table.

Easter | Holiday Inspiration

We are on day 2 of our Easter Inspiration! I am hoping these ideas and/or inspirations will get you in he mood for your Easter table.

Today we have Yellow Bunny, Woodland Bunny and Antique Bunny - are you ready?

First up, Woodland Bunny:

He is another one of my favorites. I love the rich colors and natural beauty of the sticks, nest and moss. And of course all is not complete without a hint of bling (another earring). This is a great way to bring in your own natural landscape right into your decor. You could easily add a touch of glam with a few beaded/jeweled candle holders.

Second up, Yellow Bunny (I do believe appropriately named):

I think it would be super fun to stick to one color, yellow in this case. Yellow flowers, yellow faux eggs, yellow glittery butterflies, yellow Easter grass - all next to crisp white dishes.

And Antique Bunny:

I am in love with the vintage postcard which you could easily use in lieu of place cards - The Graphics Fairy has a few great images for download. I think these Victorian-esque eggs are just perfect and the colors are a great match.

Easter | Holiday Inspiration

In hopes of getting you all in the mood for your Easter entertaining, my Mom and I decided to dress up this little guy in various themes - 10 to be exact!

Now, I realize that you might not have this exact bunny in your Easter decor, but I thought this would be a fun way to show a few different styles you could incorporate into your own decor. Oh, and everything I used I had on hand - so you don't have to go buy anything!

So today we will be starting with Vintage Bunny:

He is one of my favorites - I really like the rich color of the ribbon and the pop of the light blue egg. The vintage paper eggs would be great spread down a table with various stacked books, intermingled with several pastel blue eggs, maybe a hint of gold in a few candle holders and some rustic "Easter grass" to soften the edges.

Next up, Elegant Bunny:

Again with the vintage paper but here with a touch of bling. I really like the combo of the creamy whites and sparkly jewels.

And lastly (at least for today), Romantic Bunny:

This is definitely a very soft and very romantic look. I love the look of the "faux" pearls and flowing ribbon and the sparkle of the rhinestones (is is actually an earring!) This would be great with a few tea lights and maybe a few pink jellybeans scattered about.

PW Lasagna ~

I seem to be posting a lot of recipes lately - more than I ever thought I would before.

I must say, that I recently made a pledge to myself - and more importantly to you - that I won't post something just to post something. And well lately, I have either been crazy busy or simply less inspired - except for when it comes to food! I can't quite explain it, maybe it is because my creative juices don't seem to be flowing as rapid as normal, maybe it is due to more family time, or simply just something different. For whatever reason, I have another recipe for you!

Last night I tired the Pioneer Woman's Lasagna. I made a few very inconsequential changes - simply because of what I had on hand (fresh basil and freshly grated parm) - and it was good!

It was not my Mom's lasagna (you know the kind that at first bite, nastalgia and comfort instantly set in?), but a welcome change and it was well received - especially from the hubby and my daughter - they ate it up! It was just a smidge salty, which could have been due to the sausage I used, so in the future I would omit the added salt. And no, you would never taste the cottage cheese!

I of course served it with a loaf of crusty warm bread and a blue cheese salad (I love it when a little bit of the cool blue cheese dressing makes its way to a little bit of the warm lasagna)!

Nigella Lawson Beef & Bean Pasta ~

Have I told you how much I adore Nigella Lawson? I absolutely love her cooking series - Nigella Feasts and Nigella Express - and her books are fabulous. Her shows are described as delectable and they truly are - I love her passion for cooking and her smooth, painless recipes.

So, with as much as I enjoy Nigella, I simply had to download her iphone app! Tonight I tried my first recipe directly from my app and I am still very much in love.

One-Pan Beef and Beans with Pasta

Ingredients

1 Onion, Peeled

1 Clove Garlic, Peeled

1 Carrot, Peeled

1 Stalk Celery

1-2 Tablespoons Olive Oil

1/2 Pound Ground Beef

1 15oz Can Borlotti Beans, Drained (I used Cannelloni beans)

1 Quart Beef Stock

1 14oz Can Chopped Tomatoes

2 Tablespoons Red Wine (yes, yes, yes!)

Directions

Finely chop onion, garlic, carrot and garlic in food processor. Cook vegetable mixture in the oil in a saucepan for 5 minutes (do not brown). Then add the beef until browned. Add the drained beans, beef stock, can of chopped tomatoes and red wine - add liquid slowly. Bring to a boil with lid on, add the macaroni and cook uncovered, for 12 minutes or more if the pasta and/or meat need it. Taste for salt and pepper, and grate some Parmesan.

This is a great, quick, comforting meat sauce that is simply yummy! A family favorite for sure! Now I am a huge fan of beans - I love all beans - but my hubby is not as fond, and has requested next time I hold on the beans. I think even without the beans, it will be a huge hit.

Let's start with the yummy Jalapeno Poppers -

I will fair warn, this are delicious, just don't pay attention to the actual ingredients.

Ingredients

22 Fresh Jalapeno Peppers
1 Pound Jimmy Dean Sausage
8 oz Philadelphia Cream Cheese
1 Cup Parmesan Cheese

Directions
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Cut the peppers in half - remove all seeds and large veins - set aside for stuffing. Saute the sausage until crumbly, drain off the fat (ha, this might help cut out a few calories). Remove the sausage from heat and add the cream cheese and Parmesan cheese - mix well. Then stuff each of the 44 pepper halves with mixture. Place poppers on a cookie sheet and bake until peppers are soft - about 15-20 minutes - do not over cook. Serve warm.

This is super easy and way healthier than buying the processed pre-made variety.

Fresh Basil

Fresh Garlic

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Balsamic Vinegar

Salt

Pepper

Directions

For this recipe the key is fresh ingredients. From there, just add as much or as little of each that your like. Finely chop your tomatoes, mince your garlic and chop your basil. In a bowl mix together the tomatoes, garlic, basil, olive oil, vinegar and salt and pepper to taste. The great thing about this recipe is you can't really mess it up. I personally like is once it has sat for a little bit.

Seriously, all I need is this with a chunk of crispy bread and a great glass of red wine and I am set! If I didn't have to feed a family (and be responsible), this would be my dinner 9 out of 10 times!

DIY | Easter Inspiration

Today I will show a little project using the Clean Cut Fabric Interfacing from Silhouette. Remember they have a great promo going on this week (details at the bottom).

I started by downloading the "3d Flowers" from the Silhouette Online Store for .99 cents. I then ironed on my interfacing to my fabric and cut out my shapes (really like magic).

I then crumpled up my pedals a bit and assembled my flower.

And I think my fabric flower makes a great addition!

DIY | Easter Inspiration

Silhouette has a great promotion staring today, so they sent me samples of their new Heat Transfer Fabric Interfacing - both sewable and clean cu for me to play with. Today I am going to show you a little project with the sewable variety.

Now I want to be very clear, I am not a seamstress (not even close). I truly am still learning how to use my sewing machine (yes, a bit embarassing) - and I thought this product was amazing! It was like magic watching my Silhouette cut the fabric.

I started by creating a simple egg shape in Silhouette Studio, ironing on my interfacing and instantly I had these two shapes cut and ready to go.
The interfacing definitely made my flimsy fabric feel much more substantial.

I sewed them together and stuffed my egg (don't laugh at my "bunchiness" - operator error).

I made a few linen flowers. And attached them to my egg (yes, with hot glue. I know this is a sewing project, but I love me some hot glue).

I then decided to add a little ribbon to the top to hang.

I hosted my neighborhood Bunco awhile ago and thought I would show you guys a few pics.

I got an excuse to pull out my Bunco flags...wave them high ladies!

The most important part of Bunco is....the vino...of course!

And the second, cheese (my opinion, the stinker the better).

And if there is a third, it has to be potato chips!
I love how great they look in this vase.

My Side Table "Got Knobbed" ~

We have had this side table forever and it is boring, blah, dull...but it currently serves as the kiddos art supply cabinet. So for now it stays.

So to give it a little "pick me up" I pulled out my collection of knobs.

Let me introduce you...

So armed with my screw driver (this is my attempt to make this seem a bit more substantial than it really is) I turned this boring, blah, dull piece into this:

I know, hold you back right? Ha.

So made my boring, blah, dull side table a little less boring, blah and dull.

But it does makes me smile when I open it now.

Which really means, job well done!

Clock Top Table ~

So yes, I love clocks...not the digital-annoying-wake-you-up kind, but lovely clocks with detailed hands and rustic faces. I was sad the day this one no longer worked. He is big and grand, but sadly not in the misfit closet. So I pulled him out the other day determined to find a use for his lovely face.

Remember this Goodwill table?

Well, if you add a large clock face to a kinda-boring table, you get a one-of-a-kind side table with just a touch of whimsy!

Yes, it is possible that your hubby may look at you sideways, but you might just fall in love.

When the weather gets a bit warmer, I might give that base a nice coat of black...or maybe find a new home for my lovely clock face altogether.

Creative | Inspiration

I recently finished this collage for my Mother-in-Law's hubby. He is a musician and she commissioned (sounds official don't you think?) me to create a piece of art to celebrate his musical career.

This was a super fun project -

Just seeing all of his memorabilia was great!

Laying out all of the pieces definitely took a few days - and a few sets of eyes!

She loved it, he loved it (there were even a few tears)...everyone was happy!

Yummy Banana Bread ~

I had a few bananas laying around gettin' brown so I was in the need for a new banana bread recipe. I luckily landed on The Pioneer Woman's banana bread because it was wonderful!

I had never made banana bread in a bundt pan before, and let me say, I will never make any other way. I loved the crispy crust...and of course the middle was yummy and soft.

So I might have a "thing" for painting harlequin boxes...here, here and now another.

It started with this lovely from Goodwill.

Spray painted it black and penciled in a harlequin pattern.

Painted in with a little white acrylic paint.

Glazed it just a bit and painted a little Glorious Gold around the top and bottom.

Me likey.
